Zanzibar’s North Coast is centred around the town of Nungwi, which is traditionally the centre of Zanzibar’s dhow-building industry, but has gained a reputation as a crowded tourist hub in recent years.

Kendwa, which is 3km south of Nungwi, is far more serene… and has a magnificent, wide, sandy beach that is unaffected by the tides… making it the best swimming beach in Zanzibar!

The North’s proximity to Mnemba Island also makes it one of the best diving and snorkelling destinations in Zanzibar, and the deep-sea fishing is excellent here too.

Accommodation on the North Coast is dominated by large beach resorts, of which Zuri and Gold Zanzibar are two of the best, but our favourite (smaller) resort remains Kilindi… which offers unparalleled privacy and service to it’s discerning guests.
